Whistleblowers & Contractor General Acts to get 2nd & 3rd Readings today

Two important pieces of legislation out of a suite of legislation to ensure good governance in the Virgin Islands (VI) will get their Second and Third Readings when the Eighth Sitting of the Third Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA) of the VI is convened at Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff's Bottom, Tortola, today, April 29, 2021.

The Bills are the Whistleblowers Act, 2021 and the Contractor General Act, 2021.

Both Bills have come out of campaign promises by the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Government led by Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1).

Other Bills brought to the HoA by this administration to ensure good governance include the Integrity In Public Life Act, 2020 and Register of Interests Amendment Act 2021.

Among the many bills to get their Second and Third Readings is the Cruising and Home Port Permit Act, 2021’, which seeks to allow small cruise ships to begin and end their cruise itineraries in the Virgin Islands.


‘Game-changer Bill’ on the cards


Another bill, among the many bills to get their Second and Third Readings at this Sitting, is the Cruising and Home Port Permit Act, 2021’, which seeks to allow small cruise ships to begin and end their cruise itineraries in the Virgin Islands.

"This is a game-changer in the tourism industry where we will be reducing the cost so that homeporting cruises can start from the BVI and also we can lower the cost for marine vessels registered in the BVI for charters…” sponsor of the Bill Premier Fahie had said during its Introduction on at the Seventh Sitting of the Third Session of the Fourth on Thursday, April 22, 2021.

The HoA meeting of April 29, 2021, is slated to start at 10:00am and will be carried live on CBN Radio 90.9 FM, CBN-Television Channel 101 on Flow TV and can also be followed on the HoA YoutTube channel and online at www.cbnvirginislands.com.
