Wolues lead National League standings with victory over Rebels

Wolues lead National League standings with victory over Rebels

After the latest round of matches in the BVI Football Federation (BVIFA) National League played on Sunday, August 9, 2020, the Wolues FC returned to the top of the National League standings, but the race for the Championship looks like being the closest in living memory with five clubs still in the reckoning.

The Wolues moved ahead of the Islanders FC on goal difference following their 2-0 defeat of the Rebels FC with goals coming from Ian Chambers and Carl Moran at the Virgin Gorda Recreation Ground.

Panthers edged VG United

In the other game on Virgin Gorda, Nigel Sanderson scored twice late in the second half in a 2-1 win over VG United, to keep the Panthers interested in the Championship race, as they sit third, three points adrift of the top two, having played one more game.

Devante Samuel had given VG United the early lead, scoring in the 17th minute.

One Caribbean blank Rebels FC

And Chadwick Evans and Rickson Augustin scored in each half as One Caribbean FC cemented themselves into 5th place, beating last weekend’s Festival Cup losing finalists, Lion Heart FC 2-0.

The next round of matches, scheduled for Sunday, August 16, 2020, features the Sugar Boys FC against Old Madrid FC at the National Stadium venue in East End/Long Look with a 4:30pm kick off.

One Love FC face the Islanders at 6:00pm on the Virgin Gorda Recreation Ground and that game is followed by Wolues FC taking on VG Utd at 8:00pm.
