Youngster Gets Five-Year Sentence For Firearm Possession

A man with no fixed place of abode was on Tuesday, June 22, sentenced to five years imprisonment for being in possession of a firearm.

Paige Weeks was sentenced by Magistrate Christilyn Benjamin following his guilty plea at the Magistrate’s court.

Allegations

As per court records, on Wednesday, November 4 2020, police officers executed a search warrant in the name of Vezya Douglas, who was at the time occupying a room at the Nanny Cay Resort.

Upon the arrival at the said hotel, police reportedly encountered four persons – Veya Douglas, Rene Alphonso, Paige Weeks and Jazmyn Christopher, who were occupying the said room.

During the search, a firearm was found in a bag on a dressing table in the room.

When asked who the bag belonged to, they replied that it belonged to Paige.

The quartet was cautioned, and during a subsequent interview, they all denied ownership; however, when they made their maiden appearance before the court for the matter, Weeks pleaded guilty to the offence.

Alphonso and Weeks were remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison while Douglas of Sea Cows Bay and Christopher of Fort Hill were each granted $40,000 bail.

Notably, the court opted to discontinue the charges against the other accused persons.

The raid was conducted days after Everton McMaster was gunned down in the broad daylight in Baugher’s Bay, Tortola.
