Youth allegedly admits on video to breaking into Yo Mama Kitchen

Youth allegedly admits on video to breaking into Yo Mama Kitchen

A video has been circulating of a young male allegedly confessing to breaking into Yo Mama Kitchen.

The food vending establishment located on Wickham’s Cay 1, Tortola, was broken into on April 18, 2021.

According to reports, nothing was stolen; however, security cameras were disabled.

In the video, which began making the rounds on social media today, April 20, 2021, shows a young male, possibly in his teens, allegedly admitting to the crime.

“Yes I went to Yo Mama, I went in it,” the person in the video utters amid obvious discomfort.

It is unclear of the young man was beaten.

The video also shows a black and white image of someone caught on security camera; however, it is unclear if it is the person reportedly confessing in the video as the person’s face appeared to be covered. It is also unclear whether the image was taken from surveillance cameras at Yo Mama Kitchen.

The youth also said other persons had committed the other burglaries recently.

A gas station was also burglarised on Wickham's Cay 1 on April 18, 2021. A small amount of cash was reportedly taken.

The video also shows a black and white image of someone caught on security camera; however, it is unclear if it is the person reportedly confessing in the video as the person’s face appeared to be covered. It is also unclear whether the image was taken from surveillance cameras at Yo Mama Kitchen.

Opposition Leader Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8), speaking during the Seventh Sitting of the Third Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA) today, said he had seen the video and lamented that the person appeared to just be a teenager.

Opposition Leader condemns ‘vigilante justice’

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8), speaking during the Seventh Sitting of the Third Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA) today, said he had seen the video and lamented that the person appeared to just be a teenager.

“This morning I woke up to a WhatsApp message of a young man, and I looked at his face, the young man can’t be no more than 15 or 16 years old, admitting to one of the robberies that recently happened in Road Town.”

Hon Penn also said it appears there is some kind of “vigilante justice” being meted out in the Virgin Islands.

“…and he was there admitting to the crime at Yo Mama and also naming others for some of the additional robberies throughout this territory.

“I in no way condone any type of vigilante justice in this territory. We need to find a way to create a safe way for persons to report crime in the territory.”

He said the most troubling part; however, is the age of the young man in the video.

Meanwhile, Police Information Officer Diane L. Drayton did not respond to our request for a comment on the video and alleged confession.
