$208K approved for temporary sewerage treatment system at CGB
The Cabinet has approved a variation to the Cane Garden Bay Sewage Treatment Plant Project to include a temporary sewage treatment system.
This has been priced at $208,569.56.
The government reported this new development in a post-meeting statement of Cabinet’s August 18 sitting.
Cane Garden Bay has been one of the communities most affected by sewerage issues in recent years.
Having an outdated sewerage plant that had not been functional, authorities had to constantly return to extract sewerage from the community.
The non-functioning plant had also caused sewerage to contaminate the Cane Garden Bay beach. However, that issue has long been rectified.
A new and more modern plant is to be built in Cane Garden Bay; a community which is a prime tourist attraction in the territory.
While sewerage is still an issue for the community, authorities have managed to contain the problem while a new station is being built.
According to Works Minister Kye Rymer, the Cane Garden Bay Sewerage Project is being undertaken in two phases. The first phase is the procurement, assembly, installation and commissioning of a new Waste Water Treatment Plant that will treat all sewerage within the Cane Garden Bay area.
The second phase is the installation of more than 3,000 meters of new gravity and force main lines and lateral lines. It will also include the installation of 10 new pump stations with control systems and backup generators.
