Adaejah T. Hodge 2nd in 100m clash with Alana Reid

The highly anticipated sprint clash between Virgin Islands’ Adaejah T. Hodge and Alana Reid of Jamaica finally happened on May 6, 2023, in the United States and it was Reid who has drawn first blood in what is expected to be an ongoing rivalry for sprint glory.

The two sprinters met in the Girls 100m at the Puma East Coast International Showcase at Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, Maryland.

Reid, 18, of Hydel High School in Jamaica clocked the second-fastest time of her career to win the final of the girls’ 100-meter dash in 11.01 seconds.

Hodge, 17, of Montverde Academy, had to settle for second in 11.16 seconds.

Third was Avery Lewis of Friends’ Central in a time of 11:41.

Alliah Baker of Hydel High School was fourth in 11.47.

The two fastest junior female sprinters in the world this year met in the Girls 100m dash final at the Puma East Coast International Showcase at Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, Maryland on May 6, 2023.

Hodge was fastest qualifier

Hodge, who won the Under -17 sprint double at the CARIFTA Games in Kingston, Jamaica last year and who ran a personal best 11.11 seconds in Lubbock, Texas, last weekend, qualified for the finals with a winning time of 11.34 seconds.

Reid, who has a Personal Best of 10.92, had eased into the final with an effortless 11.42 seconds.

The two fastest junior female sprinters in the world this year had been slated to face-off in the Girls U20 200m at the Carifta Games 2023 in the Bahamas; however, Hodge had picked up an ankle injury during a warmup.
