Avanti West Coast Summoned for Poor Performance Talks

Avanti West Coast's managing director, Andy Mellors, was summoned by Transport Secretary Louise Haigh to discuss the company's poor performance. Haigh demanded immediate action after data showed Avanti had the third-worst reliability in Britain, with nearly seven percent of its trains canceled. The government plans to nationalize passenger rail services within five years through Great British Railways.

The meeting included Network Rail and focused on improving standards.

Avanti West Coast, which operates trains between London Euston and Glasgow Central, may have its contract terminated due to ongoing issues.

The government plans to nationalize passenger rail services within five years through Great British Railways.

Haigh emphasized the need for fast action to improve railway services.
