Barclays Restores Online Banking Services Following Customer Outage
The bank faces another incident affecting online access, leading to customer frustration and disruption in transactions.
Barclays has confirmed that its online banking services are fully operational after an outage on Saturday that disrupted access for many customers.
The bank reported that more than 1,000 users experienced difficulties in making payments or accessing the mobile banking app, restricting their ability to pay bills and execute financial transactions.
The technical difficulties began early in the morning, leading to widespread complaints logged on outage tracker Downdetector.
Customers expressed their frustration on social media platforms as they were unable to carry out essential banking activities.
A spokesperson for Barclays stated that they were aware of the issues and were working diligently to resolve them.
"We’re extremely sorry for the technical issues that some of our customers experienced this morning when using our app, online banking and with payments in and out of their accounts.
Everything is now back up and running," the spokesperson said.
During the outage, while online banking was down, Barclays customers reported that they could still withdraw cash using ATMs and perform transactions in-person at retail establishments.
However, the inability to access online and mobile banking proved problematic for many, particularly as it coincided with payday for some customers.
The incident mirrors a previous outage in January, which lasted for three days and was particularly disruptive given its coincidence with the same payday period.
The bank acknowledged that this latest incident has drawn customer ire, especially for those who were unable to process important payments.
In an official statement, Barclays reassured customers that it is actively working to address such technical issues to prevent future occurrences and improve service reliability.
The bank's efforts to communicate promptly regarding service disruptions are part of its response strategy to maintain customer trust amid operational challenges.
