Pride of the Isles: British Virgin Islands Delegation Sets Sail for the 24th Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador

A Diverse Contingent of Athletes to Represent the British Virgin Islands in a Multitude of Sports Including Archery for the First Time.
The 24th Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games beckon as a kaleidoscope of nations gather to compete and showcase their prowess in diverse sports.

Amidst this gathering, the British Virgin Islands (BVI) have carved a special place as they prepare to send nine talented athletes, representing a medley of sports, to San Salvador, El Salvador, from June 23 to July 8, 2023.

The British Virgin Islands Olympic Committee (BVIOC) has officially announced its delegation, replete with hope and ambition, with athletes participating in track, field, sailing, and, marking a historic first, archery.

Meet the Delegation:
The contingent comprises an eclectic mix of talent.

On the track, four athletes will don the national colors, while the field will see three competitors representing the BVI.

The team also proudly includes a sailor and an archer, marking the BVI’s presence in these disciplines.

Leading the delegation will be the Chef de Mission Gloria Fahie, who arrived in San Salvador on June 21, two days ahead of the commencement of the Games.

Accompanying her and adding gravitas to the delegation is Ephraim Penn, the President of the BVIOC.

Penn is in El Salvador to attend the Centro Caribe Sport AGM before the much-anticipated Opening Ceremony.

The Significance and the Firsts:
The CAC Games hold an esteemed place in the heart of athletes and the sports fraternity.

These Games serve as a pivotal qualifying and ranking avenue for athletes across a plethora of sports.

Notably, the British Virgin Islands have etched their name in the annals of the Games by including an archer in the delegation for the first time ever.

This inclusion is a testament to the diversification and growth of sports in the BVI.

Another momentous milestone is the inclusion of a sailor in the BVI's delegation.

The winds of time take us back to Ponce, Puerto Rico, in 1993, which marks the only other occasion when the BVI was represented in sailing at the CAC Games.

Fostering Regional Bonds and Aspirations:
The CAC Games not only provide a platform for athletes to compete but also serve as a crucible to foster bonds between the diverse cultures of the Central American and Caribbean region.

The British Virgin Islands, with their modest yet tenacious delegation, are all set to make their mark and add to the rich tapestry of this sporting event.

As the athletes take their marks, raise their sails, and nock their arrows, the pride and hopes of the British Virgin Islands will be with them.

They are not just competitors; they are ambassadors representing the spirit and dreams of their homeland.

May the winds be favorable, the tracks be swift, and the aim be true for the sons and daughters of the British Virgin Islands at the 24th Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador..
