The BVI High Court will begin hearing a controversial same-sex marriage case on July 4th, 2023.
The case involves BVI residents Kinisha Forbes and Kirsten Lettsome, who were issued a marriage certificate in the UK in 2013 but were denied one in the BVI.
The couple is asking the court to declare their marriage valid under BVI law.
The Attorney General is representing the BVI government and the BVI Christian Council (BVICC) is also involved in the case.
The couple's case has sparked much debate in the BVI and a referendum on the issue is expected to be held soon.
The referendum will be the first in the history of
the Virgin Islands.
