BVIAA Staff Hit By COVID-19; Now Operating Fewer Hours

The British Virgin Islands Airport Authority (BVIAA) will, effective today, Wednesday January 5, operate fewer hours due to the staff being hit by the COVID-19 virus.

The BVI now has over 600 active, positive COVID-19 cases, with one recent reported death.

A Government-issued press release said the daily, operational hours of the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (EIS) at Beef Island will be 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. until further notice.

“EIS will operate fully on a prior permission required (PPR) basis through to Tuesday 11th January 2022, in the first instance,” the release said.

It continued: “EIS will close for two half hour periods (9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.) and 6:00 pm – 6:30 pm) through to Tuesday 11th January 2022, in the first instance. Due to this closure, no services will be provided to the airports in Anegada and Virgin Gorda during this period.”

COVID-19 Impact

Ag. Managing Director, BVIAA, Mr. Keith Flax said amending the hours of operation is “in response to a wave of COVID-19 related illnesses that afflicted the staff.”

The release added: “Mr. Flax assures the travelling public that the BVI Airports Authority stands committed with the Government of the Virgin Islands as it exerts all efforts to manage and bring under control the number of staff afflicted by the virus. Further, he apologizes for any inconvenience caused and thanks the travelling public for its continued cooperation in ensuring that safety, which is our number one priority, is at all times maintained.”
