Challenge of leadership will prevent re-election of main political parties– Skelton-Cline

Commentator Mr Claude O. Skelton-Cline has posited that a challenge of leadership in the Virgin Islands (VI) will prevent leaders from main political parties from getting re-elected to form the new Government of the VI.

“One of the main reasons why I believe the people of this country, humbly are not going to wholeheartedly vote any of these parties into power, the main parties, is because of the leadership that has presented itself,” he said on the Tuesday, November 22, 2022, edition of his Honestly Speaking show on ZBVI 780am.

“I think we have a challenge of leadership in this county, but it’s not unique to this country… because I think they got the same problem in the USA, UK,” he added.

Skelton-Cline added that the leadership issues in the VI are related to the persons who sit directly at the helm of the party.

“We are facing an issue of leadership in this country and specifically who sits at the head of these tickets, because the truth of the matter is that is how a party succeeds or not,” he added.

He said as such, more persons need to be recruited in the VI in leadership positions such as Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC) Dame Janice M. Pereira.

More new people in Leadership

Skelton-Cline said as such, more persons need to be recruited for leadership positions, such as Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC) Dame Janice M. Pereira.

He said Justice Pereira has the characteristics and qualities of a good leader, including someone with vision, not beholding to class, political groups, corporate allegiance, and more.

Further, Skelton-Cline named the Director of the Virgin Islands Water & Sewage Department (W&SD), Mrs Perline Scatiffe-Leonard, as another possible leader in the VI.

“This woman has risen to the top even after being adversely put in a situation [that] was outside of her sphere and in spite of it [she] has been able to do some amazing things,” he added.
