D’Moi M. Hodge & Franklyn L. Penn Jr honoured with motorcade

Virgin Islands college basketball stars D’Moi M. Hodge and Franklyn L. Penn Jr were on Friday, April 16, 2021, honoured with a motorcade by the Government of the Virgin Islands (VI) for their exploits with Cleveland State.

Hodge and Penn Jr were instrumental in helping Cleveland State become Horizon League Tournament Champions.

NCAA basketball records

Hodge had made international headlines when he smashed US college records, with a record-setting performance at Purdue Fort Wayne, on Sunday, December 20, 2020, tallying 46 points in a single game.

In that contest, Cleveland State took down the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons, 89-80, with Hodge setting a new record for the most made three-pointers in a single game.

Further, Hodge's 46 points score was considered the most for a junior in Cleveland State history, as well as the most points scored in a single game in the NCAA for the season.

The motorcade on Friday started at Queen Elizabeth II Park and made its way through the heart of Road Town towards Port Purcell and ended at Wickham’s Cay I where there was a ceremony at Pancake Paradise.

Among those who gave remarks were Deputy Premier and Sports Minister, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) and President of the BVI Olympic Committee, Mr Ephraim E. Penn.
