EU and UK Reinstate 100ml Liquid Rule for Airport Security

Air passengers in the UK and EU will continue to face the 100ml liquid restriction for hand luggage due to technical issues with new security scanners. Airports in Rome and Amsterdam had eased the rules with CT X-ray machines, but the EU reinstated the limit from Sunday to address scanner inaccuracies. The European Commission and UK government identified technical issues as the reason, offering no end date for the rule's return.

Airports in Rome and Amsterdam had eased the rules with CT X-ray machines, but the EU reinstated the limit from Sunday to address scanner inaccuracies.

ACI Europe criticized the move as a setback and financial blow.

In the UK, smaller airports met the June 2024 deadline for new scanners, while Heathrow, Gatwick, and Manchester were given extra time.

The UK Department for Transport reintroduced the 100ml limit in mid-June.

The European Commission and UK government identified technical issues as the reason, offering no end date for the rule's return.
