Fatal Collision in Harrow Involves Bus and Pedestrians
Chithra Vanmeeganathan, 46, identified as the victim in a tragic road incident in London.
A fatal collision in Harrow, London, occurred on Bessborough Road at approximately 9:20 PM on Monday, resulting in the death of Chithra Vanmeeganathan, a 46-year-old woman from Wembley.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that Mrs. Vanmeeganathan was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash, which involved a single-decker bus, a car, and several pedestrians.
In addition to Mrs. Vanmeeganathan, two other individuals, a woman in her 30s and a 12-year-old boy, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment.
The incident involved a No. 395 bus, which collided with the car before impacting the pedestrians present at the stop.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash remained at the scene and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving; they have since been released on bail as the investigation continues.
Detective Sergeant Paul Jackson from the Metropolitan Police’s Roads and Transport Policing Command stated that the investigation into the incident is ongoing and encouraged anyone with relevant video footage from doorbell cameras or dashcams, or anyone who witnessed the event, to contact law enforcement.
Following the incident, road closures were implemented in the area to facilitate emergency services, but they have since been lifted.
A representative from the London Ambulance Service indicated that multiple resources were dispatched to the location, including ambulance crews, a paramedic team, and a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance.
Four patients were treated at the scene, with two requiring further care at a major trauma center.
Despite extensive efforts by emergency responders, one person was sadly confirmed deceased at the location.
