Gov't to develop Energy Transition Plan

Government has revealed plans for the development of an Energy Transition Plan in the British Virgin Islands.

The Office of the Premier issued a media release on Thursday, inviting Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified individuals or businesses to develop the plan.

The plan will serve to help the BVI achieve its goal of having 100 percent renewable electricity by 2035 and 100 percent renewable energy for all uses by 2050.


Qualifications needed

According to the aforementioned release, the successful individual or business should possess qualifications in fields “encompassing energy use, renewable energy, climate adaptation or sustainability planning; and certification to legally perform these services or operate a business in their jurisdiction”.

In addition, they should have experience in climate change and renewable energy, and also in sustainability planning and energy policy efforts at the community or local government level within the past five years.

Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office Dr Carolyn O’Neal Morton, stated that the candidates should outline clear strategies showing how they intend to achieve the energy conservation and renewable energy goals within the BVI’s regulatory context and conditions.

She said: “The primary deliverable to be provided through this consultancy is to develop an achievable Energy Transition Plan. It should take into consideration the inhabited islands that make up the BVI and should be customisable to allow for potential future habitation of currently uninhabited islands.”

“The Plan should be developed in close coordination with the British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation,” Dr Morton added.


Deadline for submission

Interested candidates can submit their documents in PDF format via email to the Procurement Coordinator Ishma Rhymer at procurement@gov.vg.

The email contents should not exceed 10 megabytes in size, and both the filename and email subject should have the applicant’s name and ‘EOI for Development of an Energy Transition Plan for BVI’.

The deadline for all submissions is June 12, at 3pm.
