HLSCC awarded $50k EBSCO solar grant

The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) has been awarded an EBSCO solar grant of US$50,000 to implement a solar photovoltaic system on the roof of its Learning Resource Centre (LRC) building.

The Learning Resource Centre, which houses the college’s library was one of five recipients of the 2020 EBSCO Solar Grant, topping a field of applicants from all over the world, according to a press release from HLSCC.

Director of the Learning Resource Centre, Mr Kenyatta Augustine said, “We are pleased to be the recipient of this grant. The College sees this initiative as advancing its environmental policy, which calls for the institution to develop sound environmental practices across all areas of the College.”

Mr Augustine added, “In addition to decreasing the library’s environmental footprint, it is hoped that the solar array will also serve as a training lab for the Solar Technician Training Programme being offered at the College this spring.”
