“I haven’t gotten down that part of the road and when I get to that bridge, I will cross it. I am neither in nor out,” Dr. Pickering said yesterday, January 8 on Honestly Speaking with Claude Skelton Cline.
Dr. Pickering wouldn’t commit to whether he would run for office if the fractured NDP got back together.
“Whenever we get to whatever bridges have to be crossed, I will cross them. I will cross no bridge until I get to them,” Dr. Pickering stated.
Dr. Pickering was first elected as Seventh District Representative in 1999 and has won every election as part of the NDP. However, he contested the Seventh District as an independent candidate at the 2019 polls when the party splintered due to a fierce internal leadership battle to replace former Premier, Dr. D. Orlando Smith.
Dr. Pickering was unseated by the Virgin Islands Party’s Dr. Natalio Wheatley, the current Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture
He stated that he has a lot to offer the country not only politically.
“I think I have a lot to offer my country and I will do my best to help my country…I will never run away from my responsibility to my country. It doesn’t have to be in politics,” Dr. Pickering stated.
He has over the years maintained a willingness to work with the VIP administration and Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon. Andrew Fahie.
“I have garnered a certain amount of experience over the years with respect to international affairs, and if I can help the country,” Dr. Pickering had stated after being unseated in 2019.
