Israel To Revise Eurovision Song Lyrics Said To Allude To Hamas Attack
Israel has consented to modify the lyrics of its potential Eurovision entry, "October Rain," which seemed to reference a Hamas attack.
The rule of Eurovision forbids political content, and the contest, set for May 7-11 in Malmo, Sweden, may disqualify violators. Israel's national broadcaster, Kan, must select the nation's contestant and has requested that "October Rain" and runner-up "Dance Forever" be lyrically altered without stifling creativity.
The European Broadcasting Union, responsible for overseeing Eurovision, hasn't yet commented on Kan's resolution. Following an appeal from President Isaac Herzog, Kan agreed to the changes, emphasizing Israel's need to proudly participate and resist boycotts on international stages, notably at Eurovision this year.
