Antonio Soprano, 62, an Italian lorry driver transporting plants from Italy, faced significant delays at the Sevington border post in Ashford, Kent due to new post-Brexit controls.

Held for 55 hours without food provisions, Soprano was advised to walk over a mile to a McDonald's for sustenance.

The lorry was detained over concerns about potentially pest-carrying plants, exacerbated by logistic issues and health and safety concerns.

Upon release, Soprano faced additional challenges, including a £185 fine for illegal parking, bringing attention to the hardships faced by drivers under the new regulations.

Marini, the haulage company, is considering ceasing UK operations due to these ongoing difficulties.
