Jaishankar Celebrates UK National Day in Delhi, Highlights India-UK Strategic Partnership

Foreign Minister ‎S. Jaishankar marks the United Kingdom’s National Day by emphasising trade, education and defence links with India
At a reception in New Delhi marking the United Kingdom’s National Day, India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar saluted the evolving strategic partnership between India and the UK. He said the relationship has progressed “from a complex historical association to a dynamic partnership,” citing this year’s high-level visits and agreements as evidence of the deepening ties.

He referenced the UK Prime Minister’s visit to Mumbai, the Indian Prime Minister’s earlier visit to the UK and the recently concluded comprehensive economic and trade agreement between the two countries.

He highlighted the launch of Vision 2035—an overarching framework for cooperation in growth, technology, defence, climate and education—and welcomed the approval for nine leading UK universities to establish campuses in India.

Mr Jaishankar pointed to the large UK trade delegation accompanying the UK Prime Minister as a clear signal of serious economic intent, and he underlined that the defence and clean-technology sectors feature prominently in the bilateral agenda.

He also noted that expanded academic linkages and research hubs will further strengthen the people-to-people dimension of the partnership, as UK institutions now secure structural access in India.

While the tone of the remarks was diplomatic, their substance underscores India and the UK’s focus on a long-term roadmap, rather than short-term arrangements.

Mr Jaishankar expressed gratitude for the renewed UK engagement and reaffirmed India’s readiness to partner in building resilience in global supply chains, advanced manufacturing and defence production.

These remarks reflect a shared ambition to position both nations as key players in a changing global landscape.
