Kim and Kanye cite 'irreconcilable differences' as reason for split

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are divorcing after six years of marriage, with the official paperwork citing ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason behind their split.

Kim, 40, and rapper Kanye, 43, have faced intense speculation that they were set to divorce over the last few months, with Kim officially filing the paperwork earlier this month.

Court documents confirm that Keeping Up With The Kardashians star Kim has asked for joint legal and physical custody of the couple’s four children; daughters North, seven, and Chicago, three, and sons Saint, five, and Psalm, one.

They show that Kim has filed for divorce on the legal grounds of ‘irreconcilable differences’ and that she has requested to terminate spousal support.

The documents reference a prenup Kim and Kanye have in place when it comes to separating property.

Kim’s lawyer Laura Wasser filed the paperwork on February 19.

Kim and Kanye were married for six years

At the time, TMZ reported that Kanye is ‘fine’ with the arrangements Kim had made and the proceedings between the two stars is ‘amicable’.

Insiders claimed that Kim and Kanye were already ‘far along’ in reaching a property settlement agreement and that they are now ‘committed’ to co-parenting their kids.

It’s got to the point where they haven’t spent time together as a married couple in months,’ an insider told E! News recently. ‘They’ve seen each other for the sake of the kids but have been living separately. Kim knows the marriage is over. She’s known for a while.’

Kim and Kanye’s marriage has faced intense scrutiny ever since his failed presidential run, which saw Kanye break down on stage and reveal that he and Kim considered aborting their eldest child North.

Kim is ‘disappointed’ she couldn’t make marriage work

He later tweeted that he’d been ‘trying to divorce’ Kim, with Kim choosing to stand by him at the time – ignoring divorce rumours – as she made a statement about her husband’s well-being.

Sources told E! News of their split: ‘It’s got to the point where they haven’t spent time together as a married couple in months. They’ve seen each other for the sake of the kids, but have been living separately.

‘Kim knows the marriage is over. She’s known for a while.’

Kim is living in LA, while Kanye is said to be residing in Wyoming.

It’s said Kim is ‘disappointed’ she couldn’t make her marriage to Kanye work.

‘She is spending time with her mum, sisters and hasn’t been working,’ an insider told People. ‘Everyone is supportive. Kim feels very lucky to be surrounded by her big family.’

They added: ‘There is no drama between Kim and Kanye. Kim is mostly just disappointed that they couldn’t figure out how to stay married.

‘But it takes two people to create a happy marriage. Kim has felt Kanye is not willing to do the hard work and compromise.’
