Additionally, the government plans to renationalize the passenger rail network, setting affordable fares and gradually taking control of rail contracts from private companies, reversing 1990s privatisation efforts. The speech also outlined plans to reset relations with the European Union, including seeking a new security pact to bolster cooperation. Starmer aims to advance these goals during the European Political Community meeting and subsequent discussions following the recent NATO summit in Washington.
