Lawyer Ordered to Compensate Rape Survivor Ellie Wilson

Defense lawyer Lorenzo Alonzi has been fined and ordered to compensate rape survivor Ellie Wilson. Alonzi's conduct during a 2022 rape trial was deemed unsatisfactory professional conduct. He was fined two thousand pounds, and Wilson was awarded one thousand pounds in compensation.
A defense lawyer, Lorenzo Alonzi, has been fined and ordered to pay compensation to rape survivor Ellie Wilson after a Faculty of Advocates committee found his conduct during a 2022 rape trial amounted to unsatisfactory professional conduct.

Alonzi represented Daniel McFarlane, who was convicted of raping Wilson at the High Court in Glasgow and sentenced to five years in prison.

Wilson's complaints included Alonzi's inappropriate questioning and unprofessional language during cross-examination, closing speeches, and sentencing.

The committee ruled that Alonzi did not clearly accept any wrongdoing and was more concerned with his reputation than the harm caused.

He was fined two thousand pounds and issued a severe written censure while Wilson was awarded one thousand pounds in compensation.

A Faculty of Advocates spokesperson confirmed that both parties have a right to appeal.
