League champs Islanders seeking President’s Cup vs Virgin Gorda Sugar Boys

League champs Islanders are seeking to add the BVI Football Association’s President’s Cup to the title they won last month, when they face the Virgin Gorda Sugar Boys at 4 p.m. on Sunday in Greenland, in the finals of the Clash of the Big 4.

Islanders De Andre Rogers, Ranalie Cain scored from the penalty spot and striker Kevin Fisher added another goal, as they beat the Panthers 3-1 in the semifinals heled on Virgin Gorda on Sunday. Timothy Louisnel scored a late consolation gold for the Panthers who finished fourth in the league.

Cain in a statement said that the win was a good one for his team as they were knocked out of the last President’s Cup. He added that they played a good game and he knew a win would be the result.

In the other game, No 3 seeded Sugar Boys broke a 0-0 half with a second half legger against the No 2 seeded Wolues, when Derrol Redhead scored. They were assured of a spot in the final, when Jorge Gonzalez made it 2-0 in the dying moments of the match.

Wolues women stay unbeaten

The Wolues stayed unbeaten with a resounding 8-0 victory over the winless Panthers in the Women’s Futsal League play at Cedar School on Saturday as Tola Broderick recorded her first hat trick.

The league leaders set the game tone early by passing the ball around and created all the early chances against their opponent before Gabi Jermyn opened the scoring, firing home at the back post from a Darci Reich cross.

The Panthers though looked to hit back straight away, and it took the cat like reflexes of Tinia Van Zoost to keep the lead intact before the Wolues were able to put the game to bed with some silky passing moves.

Broderick took full advantage of some great build up play, often inspired by Ariel Mohammed, to claim her first hat trick. Two further goals came from Reich, Jermyn with her second of the game and Zolita Bamford as the Wolues dominated.

Broderick in a statement said that it feels amazing to be part of a team that has put so much effort into getting to the level where they are now. She noted that they have trained together for years waiting to put their hard work into match situations and she was proud of the teams’ progress. Scoring a hat trick, she added, was merely a bonus.
