Local maintenance business cuts grass @ QE II Park for free!

Local maintenance business cuts grass @ QE II Park for free!

Persons making their way to Queen Elizabeth II Park, including to exercise or take a photo of the newly erected ‘Tortola sign’, may have noticed that the park has been neatly weeded, much to their comfort.

This is thanks to the owner of maintenance business Giant Professional Services, Mr Glenford C. Maduro aka ‘Chappy’, who decided to weed the 135,000 Sq Ft park for free.

‘A thank you’

Mr Maduro told Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) that the gesture is a thank you to the Government and people of the Virgin Islands for a small business grant in 2020 that allowed him to get his business back in operation and pay taxes owed.

Mr Maduro used his newly acquired Zero Turn Hustler weeding machine to weed the grass at QE II Park on Sunday, January 23, 2022.

Taking time out from gliding across the park on his 60’’ Zero Turn Hustler Mower, Mr Maduro told VINO his machine was an upgrade from a similar one that was destroyed in Hurricane Irma in 2017.

“I would like to thank the Premier and the Premier’s Office and the Junior Minister for Trade for the initiative where they gave the small business grants. This helped me to replace the machine I lost during the hurricane.”

Mr Maduro reiterated that he was grateful to the government for putting trust in his business and other small businesses to give them grants in their time of challenge.

Gratitude!

“So I saw a need for the grass to be cut in the park and I thought why not use the machine that I got because of the grant that help you and the community?”

Maduro also proudly stated that his newly acquired mower is able to cut the grass at QE II in one day compared to using weed eaters and other machines that would have taken at least five days, even with more persons involved.

The local businessman said he is looking forward to weeding the park again.
