Local youths encouraged to ‘be creative’ on social media during lockdown

Young persons living in the territory are being challenged to utilize social media platforms creatively during this ongoing lockdown period.

The 24- hour-lockdown will come to an end on April 19, and during that timeframe, the Director of Youth Affairs & Sports Brenda Lettsomme-Tye said it was the opportune time to be innovative.

“We here in the BVI are relying heavily on social media to do business, educating each other and communicate, and no one knows how to use social media better than our youth. They are the experts,” she said.

“As we are on a curfew, I encourage you to take this time to find yourself, develop a skill, take advantage of the many free lessons, tours, music concerts that are available online,” the director of youth affairs added.


Take a leaf from others

Meanwhile, Lettsome-Tye said one way to start is by emulating local entrepreneurs who are doing a stellar job by using social media to educate others.

“She made reference to local entrepreneurs such as Tar Stoutt of JB’s Kitchen, Felicia Tonge-Fenton of Evolution Hair & Nail Salon and Brent Hoyte of Home Grown Studios who have all been producing videos on Facebook to help people to learn new skills including cooking, hairstyling and keeping people entertained with musical praise parties,” a media release from the Department of Youth Affairs & Sports said.
