Navalny Claims He's Compelled to Listen to Pro-Putin Singer Every Morning in Russia

Alexei Navalny, a prominent critic of the Kremlin who is currently imprisoned near the Arctic Circle, has reported a new form of coercion: being made to listen to a pro-Putin pop song every morning at 5 am.
The 47-year-old former lawyer, who gained notoriety for exposing corruption within President Putin's inner circle, now starts his day with the Russian national anthem, followed by "I am Russian" by Shaman, a singer known for his nationalistic stance.

Shaman, also known as Yaroslav Dronov, has risen in fame amid wartime patriotism and is endorsing Putin for another presidential term. His controversial performances, including one where he simulated a nuclear blast, have been showcased on state television.

Despite previously marching with nationalists, Navalny finds the irony in being subjected to this patriotic song as part of his prison routine, musing about the concepts of post-irony and meta-irony in this context.
