Nine new COVID cases recorded in the BVI

The British Virgin Islands has recorded nine new cases of the COVID-19 virus and three new recoveries.
This brings the total active cases in the territory from the previously-announced 14 to 20.

This is according to the latest COVID-19 dashboard report published on Wednesday, January 20, by the Minister of Health, Carvin Malone.

The last update which was issued last Thursday, January 14, indicated that 14 persons were actively positive for the COVID-19 virus. The data also showed that at the time, the territory had recorded a total of 121 cases of the virus.

The new figures presented on Wednesday noted an increase from the 121 total cases in the territory to 130 cases with 20 active cases, 109 recoveries and one death.

According to the new data provided, 13 of the 20 active cases were recorded on entry screening on Day 0, three on Day-4 of quarantine, and two through travel screening. The remaining two cases were detected through contact tracing measures.

Of the 20 cases, 19 are asymptomatic while one is mildly symptomatic. There are currently no hospitalised cases.

The new information presented also indicated that 10 of the cases are on the mainland of Tortola while the other 10 are on the sister island of Virgin Gorda.

To date, the laboratory at the Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital has tested a total of 17,690 samples from 17,673 persons.+
