Out of ‘Hollywood’! McMaster gets permanent gig as RDA’s CEO

Over two years after he was first given an acting appointment as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Recovery and Development Agency (RDA), Anthony McMaster has finally been appointed as the substantive holder of the post.
The disclosure was made yesterday through a post-cabinet meeting press release issued by the government.

According to the release, “the Cabinet reviewed and concurred with the resolution from the board of the Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) to appoint Mr Anthony McMaster as the Chief Executive Officer of the RDA in accordance with Section 13(1) of the Virgin Islands Recovery and Development Act, 2018.”

The CEO’s appointment was made retroactive with effect from December 2, 2021, the release stated, and is expected to be ‘for a period not to exceed the lifespan of the Agency’.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Dr Natalio Wheatley was effusive with praise of the work executed by McMaster during his time at the RDA thus far.

“Since Mr McMaster has gotten in the post, I think he has excelled and gone beyond the level that anyone could even imagine or expect. He’s doing a wonderful job, and this is not easy. Let me say, delivering on these projects, brother McMaster and the RDA and his team, they are leaving a legacy,” Dr Wheatley said while commenting on his appointment at a groundbreaking ceremony for the Elmore Stoutt High School.

“We dropped the acting. So, he’s no longer in Hollywood anymore. And it’s well deserved. You know I’d have nothing against anybody. But we brought someone from elsewhere, and we paid them… I think it was upwards of $300,000 a year,” the Minister quipped in reference to the previous holder of the post.

“Look at the amount of projects … he has completed, the millions of dollars that have been spent in restoring our infrastructure here in the Virgin Islands. And he’s from right here. And he’s more than capable of leading us in this recovery,” the Minister added.
