Pastors collaborate in ‘Ride 4 Life’ biker education initiative

A new ‘Ride 4 Life’’ biking initiative led by Pastor of the New Life Baptist Church, Bishop John I. Cline along with Minister Henderson Tittle, the President of MALE, is seeking to reach young bikers in the Virgin Islands and bring biker education to the masses.

The initiative kicks off this afternoon, June 5, 2021, at the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff’s Bottom, Tortola with additional support from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).

Unclaimed bikes in the possession of the RVIPF. Bikers in the Virgin Islands have for some time now been stigmatized mainly for the noise nuisance and the use of motorcycles in criminal activities.

Initiative will be used to speak to young bikers – Bishop Cline

According to Bishop Cline speaking as a guest on the June 4, 2021, edition of JTV’s The Big Story with host Cathy O. Richards, he said the aim of the initiative is for it to be used as a vehicle to speak into the lives of young bikers.

“But also, the problems that are arising out of it [biking] and what can we do as a community to help them keep their rights and privilege and pleasure, but at the same time, operate within the confines of the law,” he said.

Bikers in the Virgin Islands have for some time now been stigmatized mainly for the noise nuisance and the use of motorcycles in criminal activities.

Bikers have also been blamed for many road accidents, including fatal accidents and life-threatening injuries to other motorists and pedestrians. Bishop Cline said the ultimate aim is to “make the lawless, lawful” regarding biking activities.

Persons can get bikes registered

In addition, he said for bikers who are uninsured, the event will also bring awareness that "they cannot continue on a road down to lawlessness and being illegal.”

Through a partnership with 284 Revelers, a group of responsible bikers along with MALE, the Bishop noted that organizers are hoping the initiative will be a great success.

Persons can also expect programs geared at biker educating, demonstrating safe riding, getting unlicensed bikes registered, mentorships, and even the provision of protective gears.
