PHOTOS: Ramon G successfully defends his Soca Monarch title

Ramon G, who first won in 2019, has defended his Soca Monarch title and walked away with a cash prize of $5,000.
His performance of ‘Mass Intentions’ earned him a total of 279 points to win.

Meanwhile, entertainer Pascal won the first runner-up position with his song ‘Buss Chest’ which tallied 246 points. He walked away with a $3,500 cash prize.

JVersatile tallied 241 points with his song ‘No Rona’. He walked away with $1,500.

The crowd at the Yampi Festiville in Road Town was treated to nine soca performances from a variety of artistes.

The first performer was Island Boy J who delighted the audience with a rendition of his song ‘Siddung’. He was followed by Chap Chap, accompanied by a fire-breather, with his song ‘Turn It Up’ which sent a heatwave across the crowd.

Small Kid danced across the stage smeared in black oil as he belted out lyrics to his song ‘Potential’.

In a tribute to those who died during the COVID-19 pandemic, JVersatile performed ‘No Rona’. Pascal came and in a comedic way, warned men about their woman’s other man with ‘Buss Chest’.

Diffy, to the delight of the Vincentian residents, performed ‘Beast’. He was brought on stage in a cage in a beast costume. He brought the beast out in the crowd which was fully engaged in his performance.

He was followed by the defending Champion Ramon G who showed the audience what they missed about Jouvert with his performance of ‘Mass Intentions’.

The lone female entrant Queen Don reminded the crowd who runs the world — girls — with a song about women empowerment. She performed ‘Female King Kong’.

The show was closed by Sopriziz who had a surprise for the audience. He popped out of a box and sang ‘In the BVI — a song about the multicultural nature of the Virgin Islands.
