The Polish government is backing Rolls-Royce's plan to construct nuclear power plants in Poland.
Rolls-Royce SMR expressed approval of Polish industrial group Industria's move to advance the application for a Decision in Principle to build Rolls-Royce Small Modular Reactor (SMR) power plants.
A Decision in Principle, requiring opinions from multiple government departments, has now received the final opinion from Polish Minister of Climate and Environment, Ms. Paulina Hennig-Kloska.
Following confirmations from other key officials, the investment is deemed to have a 'positive impact'.
With this documentation, the Minister of Climate and Environment is positioned to issue the Decision in Principle for deploying Rolls-Royce SMRs. The investment is considered beneficial for Poland's public interest, energy, and climate policies.
The decision allows Rolls-Royce to progress with commercial and technical discussions for the deployment of its SMR units, each capable of powering one million homes for over 60 years with low-carbon energy.
Alan Woods, Director of Strategy and Business Development at Rolls-Royce SMR, expressed delight over the government's positive conclusion.
Rolls-Royce SMR is also advancing in the UK with the completion of Step 2 of the Generic Design Assessment by independent regulators.
