‘Police in Paradise’ video to be raised at Nat’l Security Council

‘Police in Paradise’ video to be raised at Nat’l Security Council

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force’s (RVIPF) controversial video dubbed ‘Police in Paradise’ will be receiving extra scrutiny and may be the subject of even further investigations once officials meet in the National Security Council (NSC) early next month, Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has said.
Premier Wheatley was asked recently whether an independent investigation was launched into the controversial video that had created an uproar over the way the BVI was represented.

He said the Cabinet requested an investigation into the production and illegal dissemination of what Police Commissioner Mark Collins called a recruitment video.

Dr Wheatley said he followed that up with a request to Governor John Rankin for an investigation and this will now be taken up at the NSC level.

According to the Premier, the results of that NSC investigation will be shared with the public once completed.

In the meantime, while responding to questions in the House of Assembly (HOA) recently, Premier Wheatley explained that the video has not and will not be aired in the United Kingdom or any other country.

The Premier further expressed that the video was a leaked draft, and said no agency or authority approved the script in its presented format.

Controversy erupted after the video’s release, with Commissioner Collins claiming that he had only shared it with a small group of officers for feedback at the time.

While Governor Rankin had expressed that there was consultation with the BVI Tourist Board (BVITB) before the video’s release, the board later insisted that no such consultation was ever done.

The governor previously stated that he understood the concerns raised over the video and said he had spoken to the Commissioner about the issue.
