Police to Interview Actor Khalid Abdalla Related to Pro-Palestine Protest
The Metropolitan Police have summoned Khalid Abdalla in connection with a January rally amid ongoing tensions surrounding the Gaza conflict.
Khalid Abdalla, known for his role as Dodi Fayed in the Netflix series The Crown, has been instructed to attend a police interview by the Metropolitan Police regarding his participation in a pro-Palestine protest that occurred in January 2023. Abdalla announced to his followers on social media that he received a formal letter from the police detailing the request for an interview, expressing uncertainty about whether this could lead to potential charges.
The actor has vocally criticized what he perceives as an attack on the right to protest in the United Kingdom.
In an Instagram statement, he emphasized the importance of defending this right, sharing his reflections on the protest experience.
Abdalla’s activism particularly intensified following the outbreak of conflict in Gaza on October 7, 2023, where he has frequently advocated for a permanent ceasefire and has attended multiple pro-Palestine demonstrations.
The January protest, organized by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, attracted thousands of attendees.
Following this event, police took action against individuals who allegedly breached the conditions set for the protest.
A notable static rally occurred in Whitehall, where police constrained participants from marching beyond the designated area.
Despite these constraints, some participants allegedly proceeded to Trafalgar Square, leading to several arrests.
As of now, 21 individuals have been charged in connection with the protest.
The Crown Prosecution Service previously noted the release of two men, aged 75 and 73, who participated in voluntary interviews without charges.
The Palestine Coalition has condemned the police’s actions, asserting that the justifications for their interventions during the protest misrepresent the actual events.
They have issued demands to the Metropolitan Police to cease any further legal actions against demonstrators, claiming the rally was peaceful in nature.
Additionally, letters have been sent to several prominent activists and organization leaders associated with anti-war activism, including members of the Stop the War Coalition and Friends of Al-Aqsa.
