Rebels, Sugar Boys Continue Hot Run

Rebels FC and Sugar Boys FC continue to set the pace in the FA National League with both teams recording contrasting wins 2-1 and 4-1 respectively on Sunday 27th March.
Rebels left it extremely late to secure all three points in their game against One Love FC after Abner Williams had cancelled out Johari Lacey’s 29th-minute opener in the 45th minute. However, with their newfound form and confidence, Rebels kept on going and got the winner through Shemar Lawden in the second minute of added time at the end of the game.

“The game was very physical,” noted Coach Audain Lenon.

"One Love put up a great fight. Johari (Lacey) opened the scoring for us before we conceded a penalty to end the first half and the second half started out very tense. Luckily for us, Shemar (Lawden) managed to pull out the winner in extra time. We are happy to collect all three points and hope to recover in the next 12 days break,” Lenon stated.

Rebels’ next game is on April 9th against Lion Heart FC who nudged a seven-goal thriller with Old Madrid 4-3 at the weekend, on the back of a hat trick from Andre Thomas.

Old Madrid was leading 3-2 after goals from Nano Ottley in the 24th and 50th minutes sandwiched a Humphrey Leue goal in the 41st.

However, Thomas completed his tally in the 70th and 85th minutes to secure the win after he opened the scoring in the 21st minute and Matthew Murray scored Lion Hearts' second on the stroke of halftime.

Sugar Boys had a much more comfortable performance as they took care of title rivals Panthers FC 3-1 over on the VGRC. Wayne Phillip, the league-leading goal scorer, netted his 16th of the season in the 53rd minute to level the score and briefly gave his team a chance of coming away with some points, following a 38th-minute opener from German Gonzalez.

However, spurred on by the home crowd the Sugar Boys added further goals in the 65th minute, by Rolland Roberts, and 89th minute, by Alejandro Sanchez.

Also, on the VGRG, VG Utd kept the home supremacy going with a 4-1 victory against Wolues FC, marred by a clash of heads between Sheldon Toney and Phil Nelson. Both players are making recoveries.

VG had raced into a two-goal lead by half time, thanks to Devante Samuel in the 11th minute and Jaden Abrams in the 31st minute. Leo Forte pulled one back for the Wolues in the 55th minute, but any hopes of a comeback were extinguished by Marvin Browne who struck twice, firstly in the 65th and then 70th minute to round out the scoring.

“It was a good bounce-back win,” stated Manager/ Coach Jermain Abrams.

“We managed the first half well at a good pace and did not let the injury to Toney affect us. We stayed composed and the team was overjoyed to win. We now must keep pace with the other teams around us and keep winning!”

The Islanders FC also kept themselves in the melting pot with a 7-1 demolition of One Caribbean FC as Romario Dennie collected a hat trick, Deandre Rogers a brace and both McTair James and Devon Letten one each.

Pierre Jean scored for One Caribbean.
