In a special gathering in Madrid, right-wing leaders from across Europe praised Donald Trump for reshaping global politics and strengthening their positions.
Leaders of Europe's right-wing and far-right movements gathered in Madrid this past weekend to celebrate the impact of
Donald Trump's political rise.
Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that, ‘Yesterday, we were heretics and outcasts – today we are the mainstream.’ The event, hosted by Santiago Abascal of Spain's far-right Vox party, included prominent figures like France’s Marine Le Pen, Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, and Dutch politician Geert Wilders.
Le Pen described Trump’s victory as a turning point in history, stating, ‘Since Trump’s win, the world has accelerated in a new direction.’ The leaders expressed their opposition to left-wing agendas on issues like multiculturalism and immigration, and highlighted Trump’s policies on energy, gender, and migration.
Despite a strong boost from the success of the far-right in the 2019 European Parliament elections, the 'Patriot' bloc failed to form the European Commission.
The conference also emphasized their stance on halting ‘uncontrolled immigration’ and criticized the EU’s push for clean energy initiatives, which they argue harm the union’s economy.
However, concerns about potential trade wars with the U.S. and Trump’s controversial plans for Gaza were not addressed.
