Sharon served well, her expertise will be missed - Penn

Opposition Leader Marlon Penn has commended the former Director of the BVI Tourist Board Sharon Flax-Brutus for what he described as here ‘stellar contribution’ to local tourism for more than eight years.
The Opposition Leader said Flax-Brutus served the British Virgin Islands with honour and distinction and she should be proud.

“I know Mrs Flax-Brutus to be a consummate professional, respected locally, regionally and internationally. I know this to be true because I saw her lead our tourism sector after the ravages of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Her talents, voice and expertise will be surely missed more than ever, as BVI Tourism needs a trusted and respected voice to lead us through this COVID-19 pandemic transition,” he wrote in a social media post on Thursday.

He also took the time to wish her well in her future endeavours.

In the meantime, Penn called on the Andrew Fahie-led administration to quickly hire someone ‘suitable’ and qualified for the post.

He said this is important as the territory’s tourism sector “navigate the difficult times ahead”.

It was only yesterday, for reasons unknown, the BVITB decided not to allow Flax-Brutus to serve in the post until November, as per her resignation letter. She had submitted her resignation six months in advance but the Board relieved of her post with immediate effect.
