‘Simply the best!’- Premier Fahie praises VI’s CARIFTA Games team

The [British] Virgin Islands (VI) athletics team at the 49th CARIFTA Games in Jamaica have come in for praises and well wishes from Premier and Minister of Finance Hon Andrew A. Fahie.

The VI ended Day One of the games at the National Stadium in Kingston yesterday, April 16, 2022, with 2 gold medals and a silver to finish third on the medals table, behind Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago.

Adaejah Hodge won gold in the Girls U-17 100m Savianna Joseph took gold in the Girls U17 Shot Put. The VI’s first medal was a bronze, secured by Jah’Kyla Morton in the U17 High Jump.

‘Simply the best!’


Posting on his Facebook page today, April 17, 2022, Premier Fahie described the VI’s CARIFTA Games team as “simply the best.”

“Talk about BVI PRIDE & BVILOVE, well look no further than our young people on TEAM BVI for the Carifta Games 2022 in Jamaica. We are so PROUD OF THEM and their coaches, parents, support groups, all sponsors, and also our BVI Athletics Association (BVIAA).

“TEAM WORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK. Excuse me as I must recognise some of their awesome accomplishments. YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!” Premier Fahie exclaimed as he extended congratulations to the medal winners.

‘We are cheering loud & proud’


The Premier also congratulated all the other athletes for their efforts so far.

“Shout out to #TeamBVI athletes Kaelyaah Liburd and Akrisa Eristee for placing 4th and 5th in the Final of the Girls 17-19 400M! Shout out to #TeamBVI athletes Jelani Croal (PB 50.31) and Mychael Claxton (51.39) for representing in their Octathlon Boys U20 400M Heats! Shout out to #TeamBVI athlete Wanyae Belle for placing 5th in the Final of the Boys 17-19 100M Dash! As a matter of fact Shout out to ALL our young people that are a part of #TeamBVI athletes,” Premier Fahie wrote.

He also noted that the VI people back home are cheering “loud and proud”.

The Government of the Virgin Islands (VI), in collaboration with the BVI Tourist Board (BVITB), donated $35,000 to the BVI Athletics Association (BVIAA) prior to the CARIFTA Games team's departure for Jamaica.

The Virgin Islands have been in the medal mix at the 49th CARIFTA Games in Kingston, Jamaica.
