BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) Managing Director Kurt A. G. Menal, Speaking to Virgin Islands News Online (VINO), said the scheduled flight originated from the Dominican Republic and was the first time the airline has used that particular model aircraft to service the local airport.
“This actually speaks volumes of that airline’s confidence in the market and it pays a great compliment to the current capacity of our infrastructure,” Mr Menal further told VINO.
Sky High flies to several destinations in the region, including Anguilla, Martinique, Antigua, Santo Domingo, Aruba, Saint Maarten, Bonaire, Saint Kitts, Turtledove, Margarita Island, Curacao, Caracas in Venezuela and Guadeloupe.
Meanwhile, at the airport to witness the inaugural flight was the Acting Premier and Minister for Communications and Works, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5), along with Minister for Natural Resources and Labour, Hon Melvin M. Turnbull (R2).
Hon Rymer, in a video posted to social media, shared his excitement at the landing of the flight.
Hon Turnbull congratulated Hon Rymer for his Ministry's part in the airline operating in the VI and welcomed the airline and its servicing of the VI.
Acting Premier and Minister for Communications and Works Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) was at Terrance B. Lettsome Airport to welcome the inaugural flight to the Virgin Islands of Sky High's Embraer E190 airplane.
