Softball entering knockout stage of Borrows Memorial Tournament

Who will win the BVI Softball Association’s inaugural George “Shawala” Borrows Memorial Tournament?
With the first rounds of the tournament being completed this weekend, teams will be shoring up their offence and tightening their defense for the next phase which will feature a single elimination round.

In the last series of games, That’s Ya Problem outslugged the surging West End Warriors, 13-12 on Saturday at the E. Walwyn Brewley Softball Park. That’s Ya Problems had 10 hits, committed one error and stranded eight. The Warriors’ 12 runs came off two hits, two errors and they left five on base.

Tyalia “Tweety Bird” Nibbs was the winning pitcher, Sarah Washington was tagged with the loss. Tamara Phillip was 2-for-3 including a 3-run homer and scored twice. Valissa Bratwaithe finished 2-for-3, with two runs scored and Kaynesha Stoutt had a hit in two at bats and scored once. The Warriors’ Kirsten Lettsome had a hit in two at bats and scored three times.

In the other women’s games, Jelissa “Shelly” Potter fired a one hitter as Synergy rolled to a 12-2 victory over the Lady Hawk. Synergy had six hits no errors and stranded three. Lady Hawks made two errors and left three on base. Lady Hawks’ Javelyn Fret was tagged with the loss.

Darier Malone went 2-for-3 with three runs scored for Synergy. Bria Smith singled and scored three times. Shereen “Birdie” Sprauve had the Lady Hawks’ lone hit and drove on one.

In men’s play, Power Outage erased a 0-1 deficit for a 3-2 victory over the Pirates as they bounced back from an 11-10 loss to the Hot Shots in their last outing. Power Outage had three runs, four hits, made no errors and left four on base. The Pirates two runs came off three hits with two errors and they stranded three.

Jeremey “Chicken” Penn, was the winning hurler while Nicos Penn took the loss for the Pirates. Jeremey homered in two at bats and scored once. Raffael Rabsatt was 1-for-1 with a run scored and Kyle Callwood doubled in two at bats, scored once and drove in one. Nicos was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Dwight Brookes doubled in three at bats and scored once. K’Jae Thompson doubled in two plate appearances and had 2 RBI’s.

Joseph Smith Jr. lined a bases loaded single over the centerfielder’s head, to give Storm a thrilling 9-8 victory over the Los Macarrecios, to end weekend play. Storm 9 runs came off seven hits. They made two errors and left seven on base. Los Maccerecios 8 runs came on three hits, two errors and they stranded one base runner.

Neville “Sheep” Smith was the winning pitcher and Bryan “Power” Scatliffe, was tagged with the loss.

Michael Vanterpool was the Storm’s leading hitter, going 2-for-3 and he scored twice. He was also hit by two pitches. Smith was 1-for-4.
