St. Vincent: Two New COVID-19 Cases Imported From BVI

St. Vincent and the Grenadines health officials on Friday said preliminary results show two new COVID-19 cases imported from the British Virgin Islands.
A release from the country's National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) stated that both new cases are returning nationals who arrived in St Vincent and the Grenadines on Saturday, September 5 from the British Virgin Islands (BVI) with negative PCR results.

"Friday’s positive results were for day six testing as part of the protocol for persons traveling from High-Risk countries such as the BVI,” NEMO stated.

The September 5 timeline is about the same time that the Territory had discovered a spike in COVID-19 cases that saw a jump from 8 positive cases on May 28th to now 47 positive cases as of August 31.

BVI Platinum News understands that locally, health officials have been notified and are in the process of verifying the information provided by the counterparts in St. Vincent.

St Vincent and the Grenadines has recorded a total of 64 COVID-19 cases, 61 of which have recovered. According to NEMO, there are now three active COVID-19 cases.

“These new cases from the BVI emphasize the great importance of strictly enforcing all of the protocols, including the quarantine orders and testing, that are designed to protect all Vincentians,” the release said.

This is the second time in recent months that St. Vincent and the Grenadines has notified BVI of a positive COVID-19 test from a returning national. An airline passenger travelled from the British Virgin Islands on July 15 tested positive for COVID-19 on arrival to St. Vincent and the Grenadines on July 18.

This led to a full lockdown of Jost Van Dyke and widespread testing of the island. However, days later, the lockdown was lifted after health officials in St. Vincent and the Grenadines informed the BVI that confirmed results showed that the passenger subsequently tested negative fo COVID-19.
