Street Art Meets Vintage Pieces in a Chic Parisian Renovation

Punchy accent walls, Banksy paintings, and midcentury modern icons add a touch of flair to this updated Haussmann apartment.

In her renovation of a quintessential Haussmann apartment in Paris's Marais district, architect Sophie Dries envisioned a fresh, open space for the home's modern family. As the Paris and Milan-based architect explains, "[The design] was pared down in order to introduce minimal lines better suited for contemporary usage."

After combining two apartments and removing unneeded walls to create a larger space, Dries merged the homeowners’ collection of street art with an assemblage of pieces "by some of the greatest names in vintage design," she shares. For example, in the living room and lounge, a striking red Banksy painting anchors the space, which is furnished with an Eero Saarinen Tulip table and a Hans Wegner armchair.

Impactful uses of paint and contemporary art counterbalance the delicate Haussmann-style architecture and vintage furnishings throughout the home. In the children’s playroom, a graffiti piece by JonOne hangs alongside a vintage map on an acidic yellow wall.
