The French bob is the latest haircut you need to adopt

The French bob is the latest haircut you need to adopt

It's winter and we're looking for a new chic hairstyle. The French bob has come in at just the right time. Here is how to achieve the look.

Call it the change in weather but lately I've been hankering for a fresh chop. After several years of being adamant of keeping my long locks, I'll be the first to admit that the pull to cut it all off has been getting stronger. Well, it seems I'm not alone in this journey, with several Instagram feeds of influencers and celebrites of late popping up with an array of freshly cut bobs, and not just any old kind either, the very chic French bob kind.

What is the French bob?

Arguably the most sophisticated of all the bob iterations, the French bob is traditionally cut short parallel to the the mouth line and usually accompanied by a straight, brow-skimming fringe. However, the modern iteration is a little less conventional and we've seen both elements worn separately. The beauty of the French bob is keeping things relaxed, playing around with the natural texture of the hair. The style is further emphasised by the lightweight length which encourages extra curls and waves.

What is the difference between the French bob and a regular bob?

Aside from the fact that all the stylish French girls have one? The only difference namely is how the style is cut, the French bob usually involves a shorter chin length and the addition of blunt bangs. A regular bob will be much the same if not slightly less refined in the layers.

How do I achieve the French bob?

As we've previously mentioned, there are plenty of ways to inhabit the style, really it's left up to your own hair type and interpretation the key here is to keep the look natural, and unfussy. Asking your hairdresser to cut blunt, keeping your natural texture in mind should be at the forefront. If you would like to opt out of bangs you could also include a deep side part before making the entire leap. Otherwise, it's very much in keeping with your natural part, texture and
how you like to hold volume.

So now, just about ready to get in the salon chair? In that case take a look at the below inspiration to get your perfect French girl cut.

Which face shape suits a French bob?

Any and all, the beauty of this cut is that it is universally versatile fit to suiting any shape. Best to ask your hairdresser to tailer it to your hair type.

Cheek skimming layers with wispy baby bangs, the two trademark elements of a perfect French bob.

Sometimes bangs really aren't required to get the desired effect. A few longer face framing layers and you've got the perfect cut.

Mariama has the right idea, cutting eyebrow skimming bangs with a blunt cut.

We never thought this style could get anymore chic. If you feel so bold, ask your colourist to take you to the red side.

The true wonder of this cut is that it can look amazing with nothing but a simple wave.

Whether its blunt or parted bangs the style always looks best with a little added texture.

Ask your hair stylist to taper the ends longer at the front for extra body.

The queen of the French bob herself Taylor LaShae, we doubt we will ever tire of using this for inspiration.
