The Governor of the British Virgin Islands, John Rankin, has stated that the Whistleblower Act, which has yet to be enforced, could have protected public officials who raised concerns about corruption and wrongdoing in the recent Fast Track scheme scandal

The Integrity in Public Life Act, which was assented to in February 2022, also requires some amendments and the recruitment of an Integrity Commissioner.
The Governor has welcomed the Premier's commitment to enforcing the law and has pointed out that the COI report and an independent review into elected officials' declarations of interests have made recommendations to improve the Act.

These recommendations include effective sanctions for non-compliance or fraudulent entries, as well as fuller definitions of 'family members' and proper resourcing.
