Tomorrow’s HOA suspended as precaution after suspect funeral

Concerns about COVID-19 have resulted in Thursday’s (April 8) sitting of the House of Assembly (HOA) being rescheduled.
The House’s upcoming proceedings have been deferred by a week and the proposed new date is Thursday, April 15.

According to a notice for the HOA, Speaker of the House Julian Willock has agreed to suspend tomorrow’s sitting after consultation with Premier Andrew Fahie and Opposition Leader, Marlon Penn.

The lawful decision taken by the Speaker can be interpreted as a precautionary measure that follows the March 27 funeral at the Sea Cows Bay Methodist Church where a COVID-19 patient attended.

A number of local parliamentarians including the Premier and Opposition Leader attended the event and are now in isolation.

The Ministry of Health had notified the public that all persons who attended the funeral should isolate for at least 10 days.
