Tropical Storm Josephine develops

Tropical Storm Josephine has developed in the Atlantic. A weather bulletin from the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) said Josephine, which was previously a tropical depression, was located about 1,074 miles east south-east of the BVI at 11 am on Thursday, August 13.
On its current track, forecasters said Josephine is expected to pass north of the Virgin Islands on Saturday evening into Sunday.

The tropical storm is said to be carrying maximum sustained winds nearing 45 miles per hour with higher gusts.

“Some additional strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward from the centre of the system up to 80 miles (130 km) to the north of the centre,” the DDM said.

It added: “Josephine is moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph (24 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue for the next few days followed by a turn toward the northwest late this weekend or early next week.”

Residents are advised to continue to monitor updates for any changes in track or intensity.
