Two arrested for illegal entry, local charged with 'smuggling'

Police have made two arrests in connection to a vessel that illegally entered the British Virgin Islands on Friday, April 3.
The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) said in a media release on Saturday night that they arrested and charged two men whose vessel was intercepted by local marine officers around 3:40 pm on Friday.

Local law enforcers said one of the arrested men is a British Virgin Islander while the other is a native of the neighbouring US Virgin Islands (USVI).

“BVIslander Tambu Frett and have been charged with being Engaged in Smuggling, Illegal Entry and Breach of Curfew and, Bryan Bolan of the USVI has been charged with Illegal Entry and Breach of Curfew,” the RVIPF said.

Both men are still in police custody.

The arrests come at a time when local borders are closed and the BVI is under a live curfew. It also comes just days after Premier Andrew Fahie publicly warned residents not to smuggle persons into the BVI.
