UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron fell victim to a hoax call involving an impersonator of ex-Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, according to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

During the recent brief video call, text messages were also exchanged, raising Cameron's suspicions.

Following a request for contact details, he ceased communication.

The FCDO revealed the incident publicly to prevent potential manipulation in an environment increasingly prone to misinformation.

Historically, this marks the second time Cameron has been targeted; a similar incident occurred in 2015 when a bogus call claimed to be from the director of GCHQ.

No sensitive information was disclosed in either case.
