UK Maintains Strong Support for Ukraine Amid Russian Nuclear Threats
Prime Minister Criticizes Russia's Nuclear Posturing at G20 Summit
UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has assured that Russia's nuclear rhetoric will not alter the UK's support for Ukraine.
This statement comes after Ukraine, for the first time, fired US-provided longer-range missiles into Russian territory, following US approval for such actions.
Recently, President Putin adjusted Russia’s nuclear doctrine to potentially categorize non-nuclear state attacks, backed by nuclear states like the US, as joint attacks on Russia.
At the G20 summit in Brazil, Sir Keir confirmed the UK's ongoing commitment to supplying Ukraine with necessary resources, including Storm Shadow missiles and £7.5 million in funding for attack and surveillance drones.
Sir Keir highlighted the UK's dedication on the 1,000th day of Russia’s war in Ukraine, urging Russia to withdraw.
He also noted President Putin's absence from the G20 for the third consecutive year, attributing it to Putin's own choices.
Despite describing the summit's joint communique on Ukraine as 'disappointing,' Sir Keir emphasized the G20's unity on Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, affirming the importance of British leadership on global challenges.
